Philip Coppard

For the past 20 years, Philip Coppard has been the principal of Stormy Lake Consulting and leads the brand development practice. In what feels like a very long time ago, Philip earned a B. Comm. Honours with specializations in Marketing and Computer Science from Queen’s University.

Philip spent the first 15 years of his career at Ogilvy & Mather, a global communications agency, where he created a business-consulting unit rooted in the study of human behaviour.

Philip is a strategist and has developed a proprietary planning model that embeds the principles of design and change management into traditional strategic planning. Philip is a trained facilitator in the Simplexity method of Applied Creativity for creative problem solving and innovation.

Nicole Farris

Strategist + Client Relations Director, yoga teacher, nature lover and Jungian (click here for more +)

From the work she does with organizations as a brand strategist, to the yin yoga classes she teaches to the public, Nicole is driven to bring greater consciousness and healing to this world. She is a spirited advocate for mental health and is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of women entering the workforce.

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing from the University of Alberta, and an M.A. in Depth Psychology and Somatic Studies from California’s Pacifica Graduate Institute. She completed two intensive ethnographic research projects with Farm Sanctuary and the Santa Barbara Beekeepers Association, both producing surprising insights into unconscious, human-centric practices taking place within animal welfare organizations.

With a passion for diving deep into qualitative data and uncovering truths beneath the surface, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to listen and hold space, Nicole brings an innate understanding of behaviour, motivation, and felt experience to Stormy Lake that fuel groundbreaking insights for clients across a swath of sectors. Most recently for the Town of Sylvan Lake; City of Wetaskiwin; YMCA Calgary; and the Bow Valley Wellness, Recovery & Preparedness Committee.

Nicole brings the often mutually exclusive skills of being able to conduct deep and insightful analysis of information with the ability to tightly manage projects to ensure they are completed on time and on budget.

Sarah Hain

Project Manager + Strategist, traveller, angler and hen mother (click here for more +)

For the past 10 years, Sarah has dedicated her academic and professional careers to elevating community development initiatives. From tourism to healthcare, she is committed to pursuing ways in which we can sustainably manage the places we love while benefiting the local communities and environment.

After completing a B.A in International Development at the University of Guelph, Sarah pursued an M.A in Sustainable Leisure Management from Vancouver Island University to explore the use of travel as a tool for development. As a Queen Elizabeth || Diamond Jubilee Scholar, her research focused on building resilience in coastal communities through local participation in tourism management. She has since partnered with several non-profit organizations in Central and North America to provide transformative experiences for travelers and empower local communities.

Most recently, Sarah has been leading and supporting the implementation of provincial healthcare initiatives in British Colombia to build relationships and enhance access to care. She is a result-oriented project manager, offering a dynamic skills set of stakeholder engagement, communications, partnership development, and event execution.

Originally from Ontario, Sarah now lives on Vancouver Island and is happy to call the wild coast of British Colombia her home. When not working, you can find her skiing, fishing, caring for her chickens, and volunteering her time to restore and protect salmon habitats.

Charlie Easton

Strategy lead, father, landscape painter, skier and ‘limey’ (click here for more +)

An astute thinker, an experienced brand strategist and an expert strategy visualizer, Charlie started his career making tea for ad execs at MCBD, a start-up advertising agency in London, UK. Charlie's strategic thinking for clients such as Her Majesty's Government, The Metropolitan Police, Travelocity and Subaru helped MCBD win the coveted title of IPA Effectiveness Agency of the Year.

Charlie moved to Canada in 2006, joining the Cossette network, where he soon became General Manager of Identica, the network's Brand Design agency. His experience in developing robust strategic platforms and meaningful insights has helped many Canadian brands of varying sizes, including The National Music Centre, Banff Lake Louise Tourism, and countless others.

Charlie has a Bachelor of Arts Honours Economics with French from Durham University and Université d'Aix-Marseille. He is also a professional landscape painter, represented across North America and Europe.

Jason Thompson

Strategist, storyteller, artist, runner and dad (click here for more +)

As Stormy Lake’s resident storyteller, Jason does more than sit around a campfire telling ghost stories. With more than 20 years of television, video gaming, mobile apps, book publishing and advertising experience, he’s obsessed with innovating new ways of creating amazing narratives that are absurdly memorable and effective.

He has worked as a writer, story artist, animation director, animator and designer on productions for Disney Jr., Disney Interactive, Warner Brothers, CBC, Teletoon, National Geographic Kids and the Cartoon Network. As an artist and animator for Electronic Arts in England he created some of the first designs for the Harry Potter game series before the movies had been released. Imagine the pressure of getting Hagrid’s design right!

Jason was a Professor of Story, Animation and Gaming at Sheridan College for 12 years and was the founder of Sheridan’s Transmedia Storytelling Centre that bridged faculty and students from departments as diverse as dance and video-gaming to create amazing narratives.

Carla Fierro-McInerney

Project manager, mother, Latin music lover (click here for more +)

Embracing the spirit of adventure and opportunity, Carla embarked on a journey from Ecuador to Canada in 2004, seeking education and a chance to experience life abroad.

Drawing from over a decade of marketing experience working across diverse industries such as professional services and consumer packaged goods, Carla has honed her skills in relationship-building, project management, and strategic planning. She has effectively managed projects for corporate law firms like Dentons and Blakes in Toronto as well as esteemed Nestle brands like Coffee Mate, Nescafe, Smarties, Stouffers and Nestle Vitality.

Carla has spearheaded projects that required collaboration between factories, internal teams and stakeholders across North America. She has a BA in Marketing and Finance from the University San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador complemented by a Marketing Management Post-Diploma from Seneca College in Toronto. Her proactive problem-solving and enthusiastic approach consistently demonstrate her ability to thrive and contribute significantly.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Carla finds immense joy and fulfillment in spending time with her children. As someone deeply passionate for positive psychology and personal development, she is dedicated to explore ways to enhance well-being and maximize human potential. Whether experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen or indulging in the vibrant atmosphere of live concerts, Carla finds inspiration in the simple pleasures of life.

Stephanie Jackman

Senior strategist, mother, explorer and localist (click here for more +)

Stephanie has spent the past decade building a ground-breaking business network called REAP (Respect for the Earth and All People) and starting a movement to green and localize Calgary’s economy. Today REAP’s community of 150 businesses represents $21 billion of Alberta’s economy, 4,300 jobs, $15 million in charitable donations and millions of tonnes of waste and CO2 diverted each year. Stephanie and Philip first worked together when they launched a business consulting division at Ogilvy that used a behavioural approach to solve business problems. Stephanie went on to help establish the account planning division at Venture Communications. She also ran her own brand consultancy, called Blueprint Brand Strategies, for 15 years.

Stephanie has a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from Carleton University, a Master of International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a graduate certificate in Community Economic Development from Simon Fraser University. Her work in pioneering a more sustainable economy has been recognized by Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40, Calgary Herald’s 20 Compelling Calgarians, Pathways2Sustainability Leader in Commerce, the Calgary Nonprofit Innovation Award and imagineCALGARY’s Partner in Action.

Bob Latimer

Research lead + Strategist, father, logophile, behavioural science evangelist (click here for more +)

Bob Latimer had the good fortune to pick up a copy of Stephen Jay Gould's Bully for Brontosaurus as a teenager and has been passionate about science and science education ever since. As an undergraduate at the University of Alberta, Bob volunteered with Science FUNdamentals bringing exciting experiments to elementary school classes. He continues to teach students, now at the university level, where his courses emphasize how psychological processes shape behaviour and the methodological rigour necessary for students to create new insights of their own.

Bob is well qualified as the quantitative research lead at Stormy Lake. He has a Ph.D. in marketing from the Stern School of Business at New York University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Alberta. He spent three years as a Post-Doctoral Fellow running the behaviour lab at the Rotman School of Management.

Bob also leads social listening research at Stormy Lake. His approach integrates quantitative analysis with core social listening tools, providing a more grounded analysis. Bob brings expertise in the psychological mechanisms that drive memory and word-of-mouth – two areas extremely relevant to brand and reputation building.

Since joining Stormy Lake in 2018, Bob has worked a a number of projects in the post-secondary education, place branding and tourism sectors, including work with Red Deer College, Tourism Whistler and BC Food & Wine Tourism.
