DEEPENING OUR RELATIONSHIP

PARTNERING THROUGH CEREMONY

On October 18, 2023, Moccasin Trails and Stormy Lake Consulting celebrated and formalized our relationship through ceremony.

After two years of successful and ground-breaking work for clients we wanted to recognize our ongoing commitment to working with each other. But we didn’t want to use traditional western concepts of MOUs or written agreements. We wanted to do something far more profound, far more appropriate and far more meaningful. To get back to the traditional ways relationships have been recognized by our ancestors since time immemorial.

We gathered on the shores of the Salish Sea where protocol was followed the same way our ancestors did thousands of years ago.  We smudged, we blanketed our two leaders in ceremony, exchanged gifts that secured the essence of our relationship in front of our colleagues.

TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION IN ACTION

Based on reciprocity, trust and respect, our partnership ensures our consulting work is by Indigenous people, not about Indigenous people.

Moccasin Trails brings traditional knowledge, ceremony, protocols and connections to the land and people. As Indigenous Tourism leaders, Moccasin Trails understands fully the realities and many challenges of starting and running a successful award-winning tourism business.

Stormy Lake brings more than 20 years of tourism strategy and branding experience, plus the ability to create exceptionally effective tourism plans. Stormy Lake also holds the intention to work with Indigenous partners and communities in a good way.

This relationship is the genuine expression of two-eyed seeing: learning to see from one eye with the strengths of traditional Indigenous ways of knowing, and from the other eye with the strengths of Western ways of knowing.
