The tipi is more than just a physical structure. It is a place of gathering, symbolizing family and community bonds that are deeply sacred. Safe and nurturing spaces, they hold stories passed down through generations full of rich cultural traditions.

The IDSK 4-year Strategic Plan strives to create this sense of unity and belonging within the SK tourism community, fostering collaboration and support among its members and connecting individuals to their cultural identity.

The strategic plan was created in close consultation with Board members, Indigenous tourism operators, Industry partners and community members. We gathered to understand our needs, share our experiences, and build a common vision for Indigenous tourism in Saskatchewan.

Many colonial strategic plans start with a Mission/Purpose. This did not seem appropriate. Instead, we started with an intention for the organization. An intention that we could share with members, partners, funders and political stakeholders:

IDSK will nurture the sustainable development of Indigenous tourism, embracing the values of our diverse communities. By inspiring and empowering youth and entrepreneurs while engaging our people, we aim to build industry capacity and support sector growth for a thriving and prosperous future.

As a young provincial tourism organization, it was important that the plan be realistic and to focus on the right things, The three key organization strategies are to build capacity, gather and grow the tourism community and amplify Indigenous tourism.

This strategy has been launched just this week. Together with a spark plug of an Executive Director and a bold new visual identity, IDSK is off to a great start.
