Visitor appeal is only one part of what will make your golf course successful. It also needs a strong foundation of local support and a wider regional appeal. That’s where Canoe River comes in.
As part of a broad, multi-phase economic development plan, four communities – Pinehouse, Canoe Lake Cree Nation, Buffalo River Dene Nation, and Ile a la Crosse – a world-class golf course in Northwestern Saskatchewan was proposed. To advance this initiative, a very strong business plan was required.
All business plans are a balance of expertise, experience, local knowledge and good judgment. Working together, we brought all four components together to turn the feasibility study into the clear, compelling and useful business plan to generate support and excitement. The business plan included:
•A high-level operational plan, including development timelines, staffing needs, equipment requirements, and organizational structure.
•A detailed financial model which encompasses estimates of the project’s capital and operating expenditures, operating revenues, and sources of financing over a 5-year horizon.
•A sensitivity analysis and risk assessment.
•A weaving of cultural into the course experience to make it a uniquely Indigenous one.
This business plan required the assimilation of data and insights from a wide range of sources. Ultimately the financial model was able to address all of the risks and present a favourable project. It’s a golf course for the community, by the community; a place where locals can swing a club, enjoy the outdoors, and take pride in a resource that’s truly their own – an authentic and truly Indigenous experience.
