We asked the question, “What will the customer standing outside of the gates of the Calgary Stampede in 10 years look like?” Three of the core findings were the rapid emergence of the ethno-cultural visitor who might not connect to Stampede culture, the changing nature of visitors expectations of what is an “experience” and the possibility of a housing-crisis and economic meltdown in the US. Since the study, conducted in 2007, all three of these rivers of change have emerged – although the financial crisis was much greater than we anticipated.
